Buzzing 4 Change

A tribute to a great teacher

The following was composed by three TB4CF Board members as a tribute to our retiring professor.  Honey Nashman is the founder and outgoing director of The Human Services Program at The George Washington University, where Buzzing for Change was founded.

Julie Chris and JudahDear Honey,
When we were first placed together in a group in HMSR 181, none of us knew where it would take us.  We were assigned, at random, to work with the Campus Kitchens Project, and through that experience we learned hands on how a non-profit operates.  In addition, we were able to see that each of us had the ability to contribute in a group setting; something that has helped us invaluably as we have grown.

Though we graduated in 2005, we came back together 18 months later to tackle a new challenge.  In November of 2006 we were joined by other past and current board members of The GW chapter of Buzzing for Change to ask the question: If we were to develop a model for this to spread to other campuses, what would that look like?  From that meeting, we became three of the founding board members of The Buzzing for Change Foundation.

Now, three years later, with one strategic planning process under our belt, we can say that not one meeting goes by where we do not think back to our Human Services education.  The most valuable thing we learned was to have the courage to try new things and learn from our mistakes.

Honey, you have a lot to be proud of; you have created a community of change agents - a legacy that will continue to pay dividends for many years to come.  Good luck in wherever your future may take you.
